Isko Moreno wants hot meat coddlers charged

Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has ordered the City Legal Office and Bureau of Permits and Licenses Office to determine the appropriate charges that may be filed against persons involved in the storage, distribution and sale of hot meat.

Domagoso also ordered the determination of appropriate cases against owners of the apartments that harbored the storages of illegal meat.

Authorities on Monday seized more than 20 tons of contraband meat illegally imported from China worth more than P20 million after raids were conducted in Tondo, Manila.

Acting Mayor Honey Lacuna inspected these contraband meat, together with members of the Manila Police District, Veterinary Inspection Board and National Meat Inspection Service.

The contraband meat was dumped in Payatas on Tuesday afternoon after being rejected in Rodriguez, Rizal. According to Department of Public Services chief Kenneth Amurao, DPS trucks that carried the meat have been disinfected.

"Inutusan ko ang mga hepe ng City Legal at BPLO na ihanda ang kaso laban sa mga individual o grupo na involved sa storage, distribution o pagbebenta ng hot meat," Domagoso said in a statement.

"Pipilitin natin sa maliit namin kaparaanan na mapanatiling malinis at ligtas ang mga karneng ibinibenta sa buong Maynila upang maproteksyonan ang ating mga kababayan sa buong lungsod," he said.
