The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has placed all of its emergency response units on heightened alert for flooding incidents, fallen structures and changes in the city's weather conditions.
The alert level was raised on Friday, October 30, amid the impending landfall of Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni).
“It is expected that Typhoon Rolly will be significantly stronger than Tropical Storm Quinta and would traverse the greater Manila area within the next 36 hours,” MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles said.
Under its preparation and response plan, the MDRRMO will temporarily dismantle all large-format tarpaulins and billboards. It will also temporarily remove tents or coverings in several barangays.
The MDRRMO will also deploy rescue boats and outboard motors for possible flash floods or open-water rescue operations.

The MDRRMO is also in close coordination with the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) and Division of City Schools-Manila for the preparation of evacuation sites of those drastically affected by the typhoon.
About 50 partition tents have been set up at the Rosauro Almario Elementary School for possible evacuees. The MDRRMO also conducted misting and disinfecting operations in the area as safety precaution against COVID-19.
