Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso led the lighting in Taft Avenue

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Friday, November 29, led the lighting of the modern streetlights along Taft Avenue, Manila.

Everyone cheered as the dark street was illuminated on Domagoso’s cue: "Let’s lighten up Manila! Hindi na kayo kakabahan maglakad, may ilaw sa kalye, may ilaw sa bangketa – maliwanag all the way." 

Domagoso also went to Pablo Ocampo Street to inspect the rehabilitation of the park surrounding the Pablo Ocampo monument.

“Halaman nalang ang kulang, maglalagay tayo ng mga halaman dito. Maaliwalas na,” he said while passing through the road verges.

Domagoso also took the time to meet with the people of Adriatico St. to discuss his call of orderliness in the area.

“Ang lupang kinatitirikan nyo ay lupa ng gobyerno, ipapagamit ko sa inyo ‘yan pero sisingilin ko kayo ng kaayusan, kalinisan at kusang loob na disiplina. Pagmalasakitan n’yo ang lungsod ng Maynila,” he humbly asked.

He also uplifted the spirits of the residents, “Sinong magsasabing squatter ka? Sabihin mo, ‘Batang Vito Cruz ako!’” 

Domagoso also shared that he was born and raised in a hostile environment, “Siyasatin niyo sa inyong damdamin kung sino ba ang tunay na nagmamalasakit,” he said.

Moreover, in an ambush interview, the Mayor expressed that the efforts of the Manila City Government and City Engineering Office align with the earnest request of the national government and in preparation for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

“We are happy and honored that the SEA Games will be held in Manila. Maliit na share naming ito sa panawagan ng ating bansa, isantabi muna natin ang mga ‘di pagkakaunawaan at suportahan natin ang ating mga atleta," Domagoso said.
