In a letter to the Philippine Ports Authority, Domagoso asked PPA Acting Port Manager Eligio P. Fortajada to remove the seven barges near the historical bridge.
This marked the beginning of a massive clearing operation along Pasig River within the City of Manila.
Likewise, Domagoso himself inspected the Escolta riverside and assessed the current conditions and necessary steps to rehabilitate and reclaim operations.
He then firmly ordered the immediate clearing and repainting of the surrounding areas.
“They should go back to their appropriate spaces. They’re here at the expense of the public’s safety and the environment,” Mayor Domagoso said.
The clearing operations began after Domagoso met with Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, MMDA Chair Danny Lim, PCG Admiral Joel Garcia, DILG Usec Jun Densing, PPA GM Jay Santiago and Maritime Industry Authority OIC Vice Admiral Narciso Vingson, Jr. to discuss effective ways to clean and remove illegal structures and obstructions surrounding the Pasig river.
