Isko Moreno bans sale of secondhand phones

Sale of secondhand phones, including the 'GSM' ones (galing sa magnanakaw), are banned in the nation's capital.

Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Monday ordered all business establishments in the nation's capital to stop selling these products.

The threat came after a student reported to the Manila Police District (MPD) Special Mayor's Reaction Team (SMaRT) that he saw his stolen mobile phone from one of the vendors at Isetann Mall in Recto.

Domagoso also threatened to close down Isetann Mall if it would be proven that the mall was still coddling vendors who sell stolen mobile phones.

Likewise, the Mayor said that the Manila City Council is now drafting an ordinance in order to fully implement the ban.

“Naci-circumvent kami lagi ng tolongges na ito, nalulusutan kami, edi gagawin natin patayin natin yung gripo. May tubo ka pero walang tulo,” Domagoso said.

“Whether mall, tiangge, o tindahan, ipagbabawal ang pagtitinda ng secondhand cellphone sa Lungsod ng Maynila tutal ayaw nila magtino,” the Mayor added.

Domagoso said that once the ordinance is signed, this would prevent robbers and snatchers in Manila to continue their illegal scheme as no one would buy stolen phones from them.

He also warned violators that they may face closures if they defy his order.
