Isko challenges barangays to maintain zero COVID-19 infection for two months

Manila City Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso is taking an incentive-based approach to containing and delaying the spread of COVID-19 in barangays.

In a Facebook Live address on Monday, August 31, Domagoso said that the local government will award P100,000 to any barangay with zero new COVID-19 infection for two months.

The Mayor announced that the timeline for the incentive will immediately begin on Tuesday, September 1.

“In the next two months, starting September 1 and ending on October 31, kapag wala pong nairehistro na infection, walang new case sa barangay ninyo, magkakamit ang inyong barangay ng P100,000 incentive,” Domagoso said.

“Ang goal natin ay zero COVID-19 infection for two months sa barangay, and I believe that you can do it. That is why we want to give you incentive,” he said.

Under the program, Domagoso said that all COVID-19 data will be verified by the Manila Health Department (MHD) to scrutinize whether or not the barangay recorded zero COVID-19 infection for two months.

The Mayor added that he has already asked Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan for the Manila City Council to allocate P89.6 million for the incentive-based program.

“Kinausap ko na po si Vice Mayor Honey kanina. Mag-aappropriate po tayo ng P89,600,000, kasi ang goal natin, hopefully, kanya-kanya tayong magsisigasig para labanan ang COVID-19 pandemic,” Domagoso said.

“Bibigyan din po namin kayo ng certification ng pagkilala sa bawat opisyal ng barangay, from the chairmen to secretary, treasurer, to recognize the effort,” the Mayor said.
